Click the photo to read her message to all the Tree-Toppin' Families! Miss Halligan came to us this January for a 12-week internship in Room 34! The students instantly warmed up to her smile and have learned a lot from her. Today marked the end of her time with us, so we had a little celebration in her honor! We wish her the best of luck!! Check out some photos of our surprise for her!

To kick off our unit of Legends...all 2nd grade classes gathered into one room to hear the legend of the Sleeping Bear Dunes! What an incredible tale about how the love of a mother for her cubs brought us the North and South Manitou Islands off the West Coast Sand Dunes of Lake Michigan!
We continue to add details to our "Noticings Chart" as we read more and more legends. Take a look at what we're observing so far! Dear Tree-Toppin' Families, Today was a day of new experiences! For many students, this was their first time video chatting via Skype. For all of us, this was our first time doing it in school with a real life author, living in another country! Yes, Tiffany Stone is a children's poet from British Colombia! Connected via #SkypeClassroom, our new favorite children's author video-chatted with all three 2nd grade classes! She shared her favorite poems from her three poetry book, talked a lot about her life as a young writer, and answered personal questions from students! This was truly a day to remember! Check out the video and photos from our morning! Keep on sending me your photos! We have the whole Rossi clan sending reading love from the front room beach! We could all use a day at the beach, especially after this long winter!
Happy Tuesday...and Happy St. Patrick's Day! What a better day than St. Patty's Day to wear GREEN! Check out room 34, in all their green, sitting quietly and enjoying a Curious George St. Patty's Day poetry book, read by Miss Halligan!
Our students have been working hard at making their thinking about poetry visible. Click on the picture below to read students' responses.
