Every 2nd grader looks forward to many things in their last year as Lower Elementary Students...The 2nd Grade Rainforest play is top 5 for sure! As teachers, we look forward to this time as well. We start reflecting on the amazing growth our students have made and can't wait for parents to see all their hard work! Today, we got the ball rolling with a whole-group reading of The Great Kapok Tree by Lynn Cherry! And it begins.....

The classroom is aliiiiiiive with the sound of music.
Today in Science, we are using what we know about vibrations to see that difference sized instruments make different kinds of vibrations. We've experimented with tuning forks, nails, a glockenspiel, and boom-whackers! Check out our FB page for a song we played in class today! On Tuesday, our 5th grade buddies volunteered their time to teach us how their instruments make sounds. Each of their instruments uses vibrations in a different way. Each of their instruments can be used to organize sounds by different pitches in order to make MUSIC. They can also change the volume of their instruments by either hitting or blowing gently and hard. They are truly a talented group of students and we thank them for their hard work! See our Facebook page for a few video clips of our 5th graders playing for us! We can't wait to make our own instruments! Last week, our class took a visit to the 4th Grade Wax Museum! Check out some of the famous wax replicas we saw! They look SO REAL! We were all very impressed with their dedication Attention All Shopper! Students in Room 34 would like to give you some advice about shopping! In our most recent unit in Social Studies, students learned about children who were being quite UNWISE with their money, while others made some very WISE choices. We decided it was time to spread the word about being smart when opening our wallets and purses! I have to mention how proud I am of all students. Each group created their own script, filmed their own group, added their music and titles independently with the support of another student mentor! I am very proud indeed! Please watch each of our videos and tell us what you think in the comments section below! Thanks, ~Room 34! What a great evening! If you attended the Pancake dinner last Tuesday, you know how much fun it was! I wasn't able to get pictures of the whole event because my phone battery died...but I will continue to search for others who took photos. The book swap was a big success...there were musical games in the LGI...and of course...DELICIOUS pancakes FLYING through the air in the cafeteria! Share your favorite moment from the Pancake dinner in the comments below! I suppose I let time get the best of me. I've fallen behind on posting my challenges...but I have a few here to share!
Only 7 more days left!!!!! And don't forget, the 25th challenge is on the 31st and it's just BRINGING BACK YOUR CALENDAR!!!!! Good luck! C'mon TU! The MarchIsReadingMonth 25Challenges have begun! Share your pics with me! What a week! We're pretty lucky here at Troy Union! We had a great spread this week! I didn't have my phone on me at all times, so I missed some of the great food we had. And then, there were a few times when I came down to the lounge towards the eeeennnnd of the fiesta and photos of half eaten beef kabobs just weren't as appetizing as the fresh ones! Our parents really did an amazing job this week! Not only were parents hard at work...but the kids were so kind with their cards and gifts! Thank you all! I love my job! Check out some photos from the week! |
